I am 98% sure that I am going to be transferring from UH Manoa to Washington State University for my sophomore year (Fall 2018). I tried waiting it out to see if maybe I’m just homesick or having freshman jitters, but I made a list of pros and cons and I am almost positive I want to transfer after this year. I am going home in two weeks for Christmas and I plan on telling my parents how I feel, but I don’t really know how. I have already applied to WSU, and made sure all my credits for this semester and next will transfer, but I just don’t know how to tell them that I no longer want to attend the school that was my dream school all through High School. Any tips?
Also, any tips on how to tell my friends here and back home? It’s going to be weird having to explain my decision to everyone who will ask…
If you're coming back to your home state school. your folks would save lots of money, so they might be happy.
What is your home state? How does WSU compare with UH for your major?
Dreams change! You have nothing to apologize about to anyone.
In case you still feel like you need to justify your decision, read the university catalogues and take a good look at your budget. Find an academic reason and a financial reason, and you are good to go. No one can complain about those!
Have a strong case and state it. If you can’t build a strong, persuasive case, that’s information too.
If WSU is the less expensive school, then it should not be too hard to convince them. If it is more expensive, then it can be more difficult to make a convincing argument.
(More or less expensive means after financial aid and scholarships.)
Without knowing what your parents value in a college (other than presumably affordability), it is hard for others to suggest what reasons they will find convincing.
