I want to apply for media studies for UCB and business econ for UCLA...
Any advised how should I write my promt 1 personal statement?

Don’t anyone have the exprience of applying different major?

Thnks for any replying

most applicants apply to one major. If a major isn’t offered at a particular school, they explain it in the PS or additional comments box. The major choice for that school then boils down to something w/ the same prereqs and one that is correlated to your career prospect. That way, an applicant can talk about it in their personal statement.

But it’s generally a pretty stupid idea to apply to two different majors, especially for Cal and UCLA because they’re the only ones that actually read the PS of competitive applicants.

But, your situation is tricky because you are planning to apply to 2 majors.
Best advice: write about how you want to incorporate business and media studies together for your future goals and how you can see yourself reaching that goal by attending either school.

The problem: Berkeley has Haas SOB, arguably one of the best programs in the country. Anderson SOM (at UCLA) on the other hand isn’t anywhere as good. Your personal statement would show lack of motivation and maturity because you have chosen 2 unrelated majors. It would highly insinuate that you are trying to loophole the system to get into Berkeley by choosing an easier and less competitive major when Berkeley has the esteemed business major.

To add to the fact, I think (and I’m not 100% sure) but UCLA has a stronger media studies major, they might also suspect something.

These are probably not your intentions, but why aren’t you applying as the same major?

I personally think that w/e you do will hurt because you didn’t pick one major and stick with it. They ask transfers about their major in the first personal statement (unlike freshmen) because they expect you to have thought out your goals and future.

Thanks for your replying…

I would love to apply UCLA’s communication major if I could!
But after I saw the admite rate and avg. gpa (9% and 3.9) then I gave up…

So…
Maybe I should decide which major to stick with…

yeah, it’s that high because comm is a cake major. If you’re not averaging above a 3.8 as a communications major you’ve got some serious issues.

…you should stick with whichever major that you have completed the prereqs for

i’m applying to different majors too. business/haas and communications/ucla. both are the hardest majors for each school. didnt start on statements yet. will do it over thanksgiving break

that’s interesting!

Won’t it be late to start your application that late?
