I did not get into bioengineering because it’s highly impacted. Now I’m left wondering how they fill in the spots of the people who got into this major and don’t SIR to UCSD. There will certainly be some students who say no, and it seems unfair to pull students off the waitlist into the impacted major because their qualifications will be lower than students who got in for their alternative. Thoughts?
@stressed4lyfe They account for those by admitting more students than they’re equipped for, and using past SIR rates to project how many are likely to enroll (same as regular old admissions does). In the event of extra spots, I think those are eventually granted to continuing students (aka incoming second-years) seeking to transfer into impacted majors.
I would imagine the open spots are given to continuing undergraduate students who are applying to enter the major.
