How do invitations help me???

Hi, I am currently a senior, in the mist of requesting my counselor reccomendation and makin final decisions on where to apply. I Transferred from out of country my junior year and have managed to keep a 3.93 GPA how ever my SAT is only at a 2050 level, still some distance away from the top schools. Since a few month ago I have been recieving many email invites from colleges, some extremely famous ( Harvard, Yale, Columbia Brandeise...) most of which i consider over my head; some i have never heard of. They have showed different extent of intrest in having me apply to therir school. I understand that they probably sent these emails to the majority of students since Im not really one of the top students compared to others especially many of you here on this site. I just couldnt help wondering that WHAT DO THESE INVITE MEAN? DO I REALLY HAVE A CHANCE IF I APPLY as they advise me to? Or is this simply their way of advertisement???

I am required to make my final decision on what schools I will apply too next thursday and i dont want to miss the opportunity if their invites have certain value in increasing my chance. But I really need to knwo if they dont mean anything so I dont waste me time.

Can anyone please explain what these invite mean to an applicant????

Thank you....

Emails are not worth the paper they are printed on…

If you are a URM and your GPA is unweighed than you should have lots of opportunities. And if the email’s are directing you to programs directed to URM’s than you should look into the programs. But even then the emails or mailings are just to let “everyone” know about the programs.

IF you want more info on what might work - just post all your details in a “chance me” thread and lots of folks here are very helpful…

Sorry, Could you explain what a URM is? Im like a martian at this…

Oh Ok THANK YOU!
