How do meal plans work?

I elected to have the "125 Block Meal Plan" and I have a couple of questions.

Does that mean I have 125 meals a SEMESTER, or that I get 125 meals for the whole YEAR?

I see lots of people at the end of the semester saying "I have X number of meal plans left, if anybody wants a meal at the dorm let me know" and I'm confused. I thought you could only swipe in a certain number of people as guests? Since I am from Ann Arbor I will probably be going home some weekends and eating there - I doubt I'll use all my meals over the year/semester, so once I run out of guest meals can I just swipe people in as regular meals? I'm really confused.

How's the dining at UMich? I'll be at North Quad and at least on the website, it kinda seems like NQ doesn't have as much food/choice of food as some dorms like South Quad or Hill. Like, apparently NQ only offers oatmeal for breakfast every day, when SQ has waffles and made to order omelets and all sorts of stuff?

Any other advice/info on dining at UMich would be really really appreciated!

Semester

You just have 10 guest meals, idk what they do, unless they just have some one else use their card. But considering there is a picture of you on the front I am guessing its easy to see its not you. IDK if they care though

Get more than you think the first semester, then once you know how many you use, plan correctly for the next

Usually you can double swipe if you’re out of guest meals. Sometimes people are dicks though and won’t let you double swipe.

You can use your other meals as guest meals too. I say “guest meal” all the time and they just swipe my card again and it comes out of my regular meals, I’ve never had anyone actually deduct from my real guest meals. Not sure why. The idea is that you come in WITH someone, not just give them your card, they swipe for you, and then they swipe again for your friend. Great for feeding guests who don’t go to the school or who live off campus with no meal plan. You could probably get away with letting someone use your card to get in, but I do not recommend just handing off your M card and you likely won’t get away with swiping someone else in and then walking away.

Dining is pretty good. You don’t have to eat at NQ and other options aren’t far.
