I applied RD to 10 schools and all require midyear reports. For senior year grades, do the colleges see the average grade for each subject (ex: English: A, History: B+, etc.) or do they see the grades from each quarter or trimester? I am nervous because my 1st marking period Calc grade was pretty low, but my senior year average would be a B+ or A-.

Also--if your school runs on quarters/semesters, do you know how colleges determine the average for the semester? To clarify: if I get an A- in the first quarter and an A in the second quarter, is my average an A? or an A-? I am really confused...

For semesters, (although it may be different at different schools) first quarter is worth 2/5, second quater is worth 2/5, and the final is worth 1/5...the final number is your grade.

So if you get an A, A-...and get an F on the final, then your likely to get a B.
But if you get an A,A- and do well on the final, youre likely to get an A.

Plus, most colleges don't look at +/- , they put the grades towards their system.

Our school sends the grades from each quarter AND the mid year exam to all the colleges we applies to. It is done automatically by the counselor's office, we don't need to fill any form or give stamped envelopes.

What colleges see depends on what high schools send. If they send both quarters, colleges see both quarters. If they send a consolidated "semester" grade, colleges see the consolidated single grade. If they send midterm exam grades, colleges see the midterm exam grades. If not, they don't. This is a question for your high school guidance counselor.
