Extra Curricular Activities:
These are strong, but not outstanding. I’ve held several leadership positions, and shown commitment/passion to a few areas in particular. I’m a member of NHS like most applicants… I’m very involved in community service (I’ll probably graduate with 300-400 hours of documented service). I’ve held a steady job (15hrs/week school, 40 hrs/week summer) all throughout high school. I play sports—captain of my team… etc. etc.

In short, I doubt my ECs won’t get me in, but they shouldn’t keep me out.

Essays/Recs:
I think I will have one really, really great rec, one “good” rec, and I think my counselor rec will be pretty strong. I worked hard on my essays and expect them to have a positive influence on my apps (I’ve gotten good feedback), but ya never know! =)

Thank You!

-being accepted: pretty good, but ACT is average i think (?), could be higher
-being waitlisted: not familiar with regular decision waitlist
-being rejected: would be surprised

Wow, thanks!

Anyone else have a similar or different opinion? I’ve been told BC is probably a 50/50 school for me. Does this sound about right?

Dear Hopeful_Underdog : Your ACT composite score is in the second quartile - right on the borderline for the top quartile. Your unweighted GPA and class rank are certainly in the right place for consideration at Boston College. Your senior year grades have certainly shown improvement over your junior year slate and they are more in tune with your underclass years.

I wish we would have seen more about your extra curriculars. Your sports, leadership, community service, and external job details are left undefined here; we will take these all as givens and believe that they will give your application the proper depth.

Essays and recommendations : show me someone who thinks these components are weaknesses. Hopefully, you have connected your background to the Boston College campus culture and have shown how you will make a great university better.

In closing, your acceptance picture is strong here - you are probably looking at a 80%+ acceptance chance based on your profile. We cannot see an outright rejection coming your way and perhaps a remote chance of relegation to the waitlisted pool. Good luck and please let us know how things turn out! Be well.
