Pre-college piano program
Swimming club
Cross country (or track) club

I'll also enter science fairs and stuff like ISTS and hopefully place at some level
I'm going to study hard for Olympiads so I can place in top 50 in Bio and Chem

Other:
I'm doing research with a professor this year that I hope to enter in stuff like ISEF, Google Science Fair, and maybe even publish
Next summer, I'm going to apply to some prestigious summer programs and if I don't get in, I'll do an internship with my aunt, who is an internist in New York
Junior year summer, same as sophomore year summer

Thoughts/opinions?

Are you a freshman right now?

I just finished freshman year.

The problem with what you’re trying to do is that you just have a laundry list of ECs.

These extracurriculars are awful. No college is ever going to want you with these poor excuses for activities. You should be ashamed of yourself!!!

jk you should be fine

Honestly, I’m not trying to. I’m just joining clubs that interest me. There are a bunch of other clubs, but I won’t join them because they’re boring.

Christ mate. Do what you enjoy and relax, things will change a lot by the time you’re actually applying.

You should look ahead, definitely.
But at the end of freshmen year, you really can’t tell what you’ll do senior year.

Your classes will be harder.
I’m in 3 clubs and sometimes they’re on the same day.

They’re consistent, which is a plus, but it seriously looks like you are just doing them to pad your resume. The fact is that there is no way on earth you will be able to do your best for all these clubs- and mediocre involvement just doesn’t cut it, and isn’t fair for people who are truly passionate about those clubs. Drop the ones you aren’t too interested in (if you are still looking to impress, keep mock trial, debate, community service, piano (maybe), and your honor societies… seriously think about cutting almost everything else). The fact is colleges want a well rounded CLASS, not well rounded students. Be extremely dedicated in mock trial and debate and do a lot of community service, pick one of them and write about how it helped you grow in the application essay, and you are already golden. It looks a lot better than 10 clubs in 1 year.

It would be nice if we had your ACTUAL extracurriculars. Not what you THINK you’re going to do in the next three years.

And for crying out loud. Calm the freak down. I noticed you also started this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/1514095-what-your-top-ten-universities.html

You are really way too ahead of yourself, young freshman. Do you even know what you want to major in? Don’t be conditioned by the college culture we live in. Figure yourself out first. Life is not COLLEGE OR DIE.

I see. I’ll drop a few and dedicate time to Mock Trial, Debate, and piano.

I might as well drop Key Club and just do the comm serv independently.

Thanks everyone!

Which debate team are you on and what event do you do?
