As a prospective transfer student, I was wondering how students at Cornell dress? What styles are popular, and what brands do people wear, particularly if they're not looking to spend a small fortune on clothing? I understand that at a school as large as Cornell there will be a number of different styles represented, but how do people generally dress?

I don’t know if you are a male or female. I know the woman wear dresses on the weekends for frat parties as well as college town parties. The male students will wear button down shirts with a sweater for the same parties. You won’t see sneakers at parties so a decent casual shoe for jeans should be purchased if you are a guy.

From what I have heard and seen with my sons the dress during the week when attending class seems to be jeans, sweaters, or whatever you like. Most people are too busy to care what you are wearing. Generally the name brands popular with highschool kids are gone by freshman year…so no Abercrombie or Hollister.

Warmly…

I second “Warmly.” I guess the exception being girls going to parties on weekends, in which case anything goes, including short skirts/dresses and high heels. I’d disagree that a sneaker isn’t common for guys. Running shoes are uncommon perhaps, but not sneakers (like Converse or Adidas).

During the week though, most people will layer up in hoodies/sweaters/boots/etc.

really depends on the group…there’s obviously the people that don’t care, which resembles like 2/3, 3/4 of the population, but you will see a new kind of preppy (mostly RL/Brooks Brothers) instead of Hollister/Abercrombie. people usually dress nicely for parties, but there are alot of exceptions.

Oh come on, it hasn’t even been that cold yet this year!
