how do people do 6 c.u.'s

i've been here for 2 years and this is something that just stuns me, how people actually do 6 c.u.s during certain semesters. i'm really impressed and also somewhat depressed that it's something I can't do and other people can.

I’ve done it each of the last 4 semesters, and quite successfully at that, I’d say.

But I also balance it out - I pick up some easy A classes. Last semester I didn’t have that easy A class, so I changed one of my classes to P/F, so last semester I had 5 grades and a P.

I’m considering taking an inordinate amount of classes next semester - we’ll see if it happens.

What are the reasons for taking a class P/F? Is it common? I’m still trying to accept the fact that no, I’m not going to be taking 7 classes a day, much less that there are some classes I don’t have to get a letter grade in… lol

what do you mean what are the reasons for taking a class p/f? if you don’t need it for a requirement and just want to take it, and don’t want to worry about a grade, then you take it P/F. it’s there to encourage people to take random classes even if they are difficult

does it show up on the transcript? and it doesn’t fulfill a requirement? lol sorry, when you explained that its a good chance to take random classes even if they’re hard, i suddenly realized i could now properly learn basic physics (im weak, i know)

it does show up (you want recognition for something you’ve taken) but the grade is registered as a P or F and is not counted in your gpa

usually these can be used to fulfill electives or certain non-major requirements

Actually, if you earn a P then it won’t be factored into your GPA, but if you get an F then it counts as a 0.0, just like any other F.

Most classes that count towards something (whether it be a major, a minor, or the basic degree requirements) cannot be taken P/F. For more info click here.

im a freshman and i’m taking 5 c.u.'s. however, one of my classes (italian) is 5 hours long while the rest of my classes are 3 hours with one being 4 hours. at any other college, that would be the equivalent of a 18 hour schedule. should i switch up my schedule to take shorter classes or should i just stick with it?

It’s doable. You might find it to be a tad much after a few weeks in which case you can drop one of the classes. All intro language courses (at least Romance Languages) are 5 hours a week, but pretty easy IMO.

18 hours isn’t that bad

engineers can have 22-23 hour schedules first semester

Schedule size isn’t really the issue, in my opinion. I could take 7 engineering classes and absolutely love them and find them so manageable because I enjoy them so much. Or I could take 6 Wharton courses and hate most of them, and have a really hard semester. It depends on the classes you take.

hmm. just added up my mock schedule; 23.5 hrs…but it was pretty much what was expected for my major. guess it will be busy…was going to petition to add another course, but perhaps it will be enough.

to update this topic, i’m signing up for 6 difficult but hopefully enjoyable classes this fall
