Learning to cope with the time commitment is not only something that will help you get INTO the Academy, it will help enormously there if you do happen to get in. In HS, I did have a lot of things taking up my schedule, but in general, my time management skills and prioritization skills were well below what they should've been, and it killed me at first when I came to college. I had to learn quickly, and I'm thankful I did, because I'm going to have that much less to worry so much about when I get there in June.

One word...senioritis...it's KILLING me. I spend all my time at school, yet I never seem to accomplish anything significant. I gotta get on that though exams are in a week...uhhhh...right. Calculus is death, a slow and painful death eating away at me from the inside...eww

I used to feel the same way...but I had en epiphany a few weeks ago and for some reason I now find calculus a tiny bit interesting (oh god, I've been at this engineering school too long already...)- I still overall hate it for the most part though.

I think pretty much everyone on the planet gets senioritis, as long as you don't just stop going to school altogether or something, you should be fine.

Stop going to school??? My conscience wouldn't let me. I stayed home sick two days last week (that's makes about...hmm let's see a grand whapping 7 days of school missed througout my 4 years of hs) I felt like a cry baby, but I figure I might as well stay home while I can because next year...

I like calculus. I'm just terrible at it.

all u guys are in college already?

I am, but K10 isn't. I believe there are only a handful of us on here (no more than 3 or 4) that are actually coming in from college.

oh so u already have gotten accepted into the academy

Patriot CPM "ok. I get out of college on May 9th"
K10: "The academic year is over for me on 5 May"

Consider yourselves lucky. I get out of High School June 1st. Only 4 weeks before I-day. But then again, our summer vacations at USAFA will only be 3 weeks. Looks like we'll have to get used to the military-style summer vacations sooner or later. :(

You're luckier than me Solormax. If I go to the academy I will get out of school no earlier than June 18th (2008) and will have at the most one week before I have to go out there.

Patriot, I must've forgotten that you're in college as well.

1 year or 2?

I'm two years here. I'm on full-time co-op and finish May 12, then it's just continued physical preparation until then. Taking a weeklong vacation at Hilton Head the week before I-day, that should be fun.

And what math are you hoping to get into at the Academy?

I'm debating between Calc 3 and Diff. Eq. (I'd be retaking whichever I go in to, as I've done through Diff. Eq.).

Yea I'm like K10, I'll be out soon about first week of May than I have a senior "project," but I would have to say the best idea my school has had-- and number one 'cure' for senioritis, is the fact that Senior's if they have an A- or above in a class don't have to take that class' final!-- anyone else get this Privilege?

Sorta, it's for AP classes only though...if you have an A in the class and are taking the AP exam you don't have to take the school exam. Pretty sweet if you're wicked smaat...

We didn't have anything like that in HS, but it's pretty much standard here at college (at least at my school)- If you are satisfied with your grade before finals, you don't have to take it.

This pertains to nothing here but thought you guys might enjoy the article. Ok. I'll get out now. :)

Go Navy :)

usafa21astr, you have me beat.

I'll be going after my first year of college (this year, obviously). I'll probably be going for Calc 2 or 3, depending, maybe Diff-Eq (I've gone through Calc 2 here, so Calc 3 and Diff-Eq would be new to me).

I have scheduled for next year 3 AP's (God help me, Calculus, Physics, English) two Varsity sports, my job ( a lifeguard) and National Honors Society stuff plus friends family and the like. Umm time management. Alot of the homework I do during the day at school or mostly in my case on the day it i sude I kinda have a schedule. Umm with sports and a job my coachesa ren't real lienient with missing practices so my boss at the YMCA trys to help me work arund my schedule. Oh yes and I don't get alot of sleep. School starts at 7:30 so I ammusually in bed by like 11pm or 11:30. So about 6-ish hours of sleep. You can do it don't worry and KEEP TO A SCHEDULE!!

Yeah our school has it but they took it away from juniors last year (guess what I am a junior) Yea but our seniors only have to get and A or B and they are exempted oh and I think they can only have so many absences

We have a similiar final exemption, as we call it. Our system:

Freshman have 1 exemption from any final per semester. Cannot do the same class both semesters.
Sophomores have 2 per semester, cannot do the same class both semesters.
Juniors have 3 per semester, cannot do the same class both semesters.
Seniors have 3 first semester, and can exempt all the second semester (CAN do a class both semesters)

Can do this if you have:
A in class and 3 or less absences from the class
B " 2 absences
C " 1 absence

Cannot apply to HCC (Houston Community College) duel credit courses.

So basically, we DON'T miss school or have senior skip days, cause those exemptions are HEAVEN! And teachers will seek vendettas through insane tests if forced to write one because students have to take their finals lol.

Well, Solormax, going to the academy is definitely well worth my summer.
