How do people have such high GPAs with comparatively low test scores?

I agree with @BrownParent‌ & @Snax03‌. Great points.

What is this thread about? You think top colleges will ignore you because of your “bad” GPA?

You need a reality check. A 4.0 UW GPA is no guarantee, and NONE of the top colleges would ignore your GPA.

There are kids who get into top schools with 3.5 or lower unweighted GPA, and you are complaining that you don’t have a little bit more?

Calm down, stop worrying. Worry about world hunger and ISIL and Ebola if you have to, not about your GPA.

Colleges say that GPA is taken in the context of your high school, not in relation to other applicants. So what do your stats tell me? Obviously you are very bright and capable given your standardized test scores, and you GPA is solid given that you attend a competitive school, and take a rigorous course load. But then when you mention your class rank, your star starts to dim a bit. Within the context of your own school, why aren’t you closer to the top? It’s not the 3.73 GPA that casts a shadow, rather why are so many of your classmates able to outperform you, when you are the one with the top test scores? Perhaps you are just taking too many classes, and certainly too many APs. It is overkill. You would be better off taking a few less and getting all A’s. 4-5 APs is still plenty rigorous.
