How do political ideas influence admissions

My politics are very libertarian. Many of the colleges I am applying to tend to have a liberal student body. What effect will hinting at my poltical views in my essays and extracirriculars resume have on admissions?

It won't have an affect on admissions at the vast majority of schools, as long as your opinions appear to be original (i.e. not your parents') and well-thought.

which colleges are you referring to? b/c im more conservative than libertarian but these political philosophies are in a similar vicinity.

"im more conservative than libertarian but these political philosophies are in a similar vicinity."

To my understanding, libertarianism does not really fall in the traditional spectrum of conservative and liberal...rather if there was a line and a dot above that line, libertarianism would be that dot.

I wouldn't talk about politics in any part of your application unless it shows something that you have done in that field (volunteer for a campaign or join a political activism club).

I'm refering to Cornell and Union college.

generally, libertarians are thought to be right. conservatives are also right. i wasnt saying that my political philosophies are in the same vicinity, but rather that they would be viewed in the same vicinity.

Obviously you do not know the definition of libertarian. Just say you are liberal, that'll suffice.

Haha ^

I am involved in politics and I never mentioned what kind of ideology. It's just not needed.

Shainaloves, it is necessary, at times, to mention the specifics of your involvement. At such times, the ideology usually comes out.

Like when?

Say an applicant works extensively at the Republican National Convention. When he writes it down, it will become obvious that he is a Republican.

I personally wrote

"I volunteered __ hours during the 2004 presidential campaign."
