How do rolling admissions really work?

I can't figure out rollimg admissions. Do you think it is easier to get in if you apply earlier? Do they just let the "definites" know right away and hold spots to see if better candidates will apply?

Applying early demonstrates interest better than applying late, so generally it increases chances a bit at rolling schools.

The school will usually have a max number of apps they are allowed to accept. So when you apply, the admissions team reviews your application as soon as it is completed and will make a decision and send your decision as soon as they can. So if you apply early they will be more likely to accept you, but as the year goes on and the spaces for accepted apps becomes smaller, it will become very selective. The sooner the better.
