Just somewhat curious, my school doesn't use the typical GPA or letter grade system but a 1-7 scale (1 being the lowest, 7 being highest, 6 already being a very difficult grade to achieve). How do schools that apply to look at it? Would I need to send in an additional letter clarifying grade translation?

I’m pretty sure your school will send in a School Profile along with the school report, clarifying the grades. I go to an international school, and my middle school grades were a 1-7 scale from sixth to seventh grade, and in eighth grade it changed to a 1-5 scale, and then it changed to the typical letter grades in high school. My counselor told me she would send in a School Profile without me asking, so I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t need to send a letter yourself, but you may want to ask if your school sent any explanation of the grades with the School Report.

I guess that’s why they have the question how many percent of students in entire school receive which grade in the head of school/counselor rec. Isn’t it too subjective to say that it is “hard to get a 7”? If the percentage of students at your school getting this score is, let say 9%, then the school knows it’s tough themselves…

Over here in Canada I’m not to sure I was looking at my GPA for Ncaa clearinghouse and an 80-100=A or 4.0 a 69-79=B 3.0… and so forth but im unsure if the schools know this.

I go to an international school in Georgia…we also use the 1-7 scale. Don’t worry about it…

Thanks guys.

As far as my school goes, there are no “honors” or “accelerated” classes or honors marks, and it doesn’t rank but does hand out achievement awards for students with distinguished grades.

I’m not so sure what my principal sent to the schools, but I’ll ask him if he did in fact send a letter regarding our grade system.

Each admission office typically has 1-2 (or more) admission counselors who specialize in reading international files and are familiar with their various grading systems. Not to worry.
