<p>^^Why would this make class rank important? If you have a 4.0 on a 4.0 scale, you’re #1 in the class, no questions asked.</p>
<p>My school ranks on unweighted, but if there’s a tie they look at how challenging your courses were. It works because anyone who cares about school at all takes honors classes. People in regular classes (for which there was an honors option) aren’t getting As in them. There are two people in my class with a 4.0.</p>
<p>I have a son who is an athletic recruit, and some of us in that category (by no means all) believe that when a coach tells a kid they would like to see at least a 4.0 first quarter senior year, it’s a gentle way of possibly parting ways, particularly if the kid has a fall sport.</p>
<p>They know it’s improbable, you know it’s improbable.</p>
<p>Nobody at my school earns a 4.0. We get a few of them from the local Scholar’s program, but I haven’t known a single one yet to graduate from the base school.</p>
