How Do the Deans View the Apps?

Good Morning Guys,

Well I uploaded my essays to the CA with all the comment boxes on them. I did this because when I clicked "Print Preview" on the CA, the boxes didn't show up. Is "Print Preview" what the Adcoms see?

Thanks

The essays appear after the form for us.

Dean J, what do you mean by “after the form?” The boxes didn’t show up on “Print Preview,” does this mean they don’t show up when you read them?

Thanks

Form = Common App

This is for any future students who come to this thread: When you print preview you should see the Common Application form with all of your information. This holds true to for the UVa supplement too. If you are still unsure of this then actually print it out. However, I will let you know sometimes the printed version of the common app does not always fit on the page correctly. If you have issues with viewing the Common Application after printing it contact Common Application, it is their form. The UVa supplement looks just like a filled in form with the UVa logo, etc. Many students do not always look at a document in the print preview prior to sending. You do not have to, but for some students it is easier to follow to make sure all of the blanks were filled in correctly. For others the onscreen CA ‘insert here’ type form is fine.

For UVaorBust: At this point do not worry about anything, all your apps are sent in. If anything that glaring was missing you would not have been given the nod by either of the colleges that have accepted you EA. If by some small chance any colleges need any further information they will let you know. Relax and enjoy this time to focus on senior year.

No woosah, I didn’t apply to UVA EA. On Microsoft Word you can edit papers and track the changes. On the essays I submited I did not delete the tracked comments because they did not show up on the Common App at the bottom of the screen when I clicked Print Preview. I was wondering if the “print preview” that the applicant sees is exactly what the Adcom sees.

UVaorBust please reread my post, at no time did I imply you applied EA to UVa. You applied EA to UMich and BC and got in so hence your CA was fine.

As to your second point, Dean J already answered that one for you.

Hmm, I guess I’m misunderstanding Dean J’s response. And I never said that you implied I applied EA to UVA. However, you assumed that the essays I sent into colleges early also had the comment boxes on them - BAM. I’m just kidding. I’m, really nervous right now though. I understand where the essays appear on the CA, which is on the bottom of the screen. But do the essays appear EXACTLY as they do on my print preview for adcoms?

Actually I think I know the answer now. My essay is converted into a PDF profile and is then downloaded by the college in that format. Thus, the comment boxes on my essay will not show up (because they don’t on the print preview).

Nervous or not you must think before you speak/write. BAM is inappropriate and uncalled for to someone who is only trying to assist you. My best to you as you progress through this process.

Woosah, I was just kidding around. I’m assuming you’re an adult and I thank you very much for your help. I just wanted to let you know that my BC and Mich apps had absolutely nothing to do with my UVA app. I wasn’t trying to be “inappropriate” or belittle (still trying to work on vocab :)) you in any way.

Thanks for the help

UVAorBust - you finished your apps, the deadline has passed. There’s nothing more you can do, why are you still freaking out? If you did indeed get in BC EA, then relax and don’t worry about anything till decision day. The question you’re asking at this point are meaningless

That is a good point m4dskillz. However, if the essays on my CA did propose a problem, I would just send in additional copies to the office that don’t have the comments. What ever, I think the UVA deans will like my essays :), or so I hope.
