How do the high class kids fromt he east coast in the ivies dress?

J Crew and Ralph Lauren

like rich, white, entitled snobs.

just like the ones at your HS.

Abercrombie.

Not all rich people are snobs.

Just like not all poor people are trash.

Therefore, no need for stereotyping.

Btw, true-money kids don’t wear Abercrombie. It’s fake high school stuff.

i never said they were.

i said they dress like them

I despise Abercrombie.

Definitely not Abercrombie. That is relatively inexpensive compared to the stuff they wear. J.Crew, Lilly Pulitzer, Ralph Lauren, lots of designer shoes/handbags like Tori Burch (spelling might be wrong) and Longchamp. I should know considering my school is like the white rich kid capital of the world. Haha.

Jeans and t-shirts

i wouldn’t consider myself real wealthy, my parents r struggling too pay my tuition and i own something from all of the places mentioned except long champ, however my sister bought me stuff from ralph lauren she works there and got the discount i wore lily pulitzer the other day and i love jcrew

most people i know either are the j.crew type or the urban outfitters/anthropologie type. or jeans and t-shirts… $200 jeans and $40 t-shirts of course.

I wear Brooks Brothers and Jos A Bank. I grew up in a wealthy DC suburb, but I won’t be attending an Ivy

I wanted to get some stuff from Jos A Bank, but my dad said it was too old for me…

It’s a good store though.

^^ Get stuff from them now because I think they are going out of business. They’ve been having sales like every week for a while now. One of the sales was ridiculous: buy 1 suit get another free +2 ties and 2 dress shirts. Their clothes are great quality though. I recommend getting their merino wool sweater vest or french cuffed dress shirts

Oh I tried, but dad wouldn’t budge. I pointed out some crazy sales, and he just said too old. I would LOVE to get some suits from there, though.

Im not rich but i never understood the j.crew thing. i think their clothes are boring. i also think places like banana republic are dumb.

but anyway. who cares? u can look great without designer brands. only a really sad person will be able to tell your scarf is from target and not j.crew

If you want those suits from them so much, could I suggest…buying them yourself?

Is J. Crew even that expensive? I dunno…maybe cause I mainly shop at their outlet + the college discount…I bought a couple of their polos for about $13 each, shorts for about $10, jeans for like $20. I mean, I am sure places like Walmart might be cheaper, but I do not consider J. Crew overly expensive or anything…

Brooks Brothers on the other hand…uh, yeah…I’ll wait till I actually make some real money before I shop there.

^ if you go on the J Crew website, you’ll see that most tops/sweaters are $70-$150. I also shop at the outlet store, and with the college discount, it saves a lot of money (I just bought a blouse for $35 that was $88 online). Anyway i don’t shop there a lot, but the clothes are really good quality and hold up for years so I think they’re worth it.

It’s not like everyone at Ivies is wealthy, those schools give amazing financial aid. My friends at Ivies don’t dress any differently from me. At any college, you’ll see a variety of people with different tastes. I go to a pricy school and some people are into designer stuff, others dress in grungier clothes. If you are headed toward an Ivy in the fall, i wouldn’t worry about fashion…most students are smart and not going there to compare wardrobes…

edit

As for the “pretentious snobs” comment, I grew up in an affluent east cost town, and the kids I grew up with are a hundred times friendlier, classier, and more laid-back than most of the students i’ve met in college. But where the tuition is high, you’ll find lots of pretentious snobs. :)

Lynn is far from an Ivy, so that doesn’t help the OP.

Anyway, I know around 50 people at Penn, including my brother, who will be a freshman next year. Most of them wear just normal clothing. Nothing overly expensive. Maybe some J Crew and Banana Republic and whatnot, but not like entire wardrobes.

Thanks to those who stereotyped us ‘high class’ east coast kids as pretentious snobs.
