I’m a little worried about my sophomore slump, receiving 3 C’s, but I dramatically improved (in my opinion). went from 3.4 to 4.1 GPA soph to junior year, 3.5 UC gpa.

Do UCs just look at the overall picture or do they take small factors like improvement when they consider me as an applicant?

I honestly think they look at the overall picture. Some may argue differently the lot of them will take based on overall UC GPA unless you went with an exaggerated increase (i.e. 3.0 UC GPA first sem of soph year to 4.7 basically) They don't count freshman year because that probably is the year that they let people get used to HS and get out of a slump for sophomore year.

How about a 3.33 (1st semester)to a 4.6 (2nd semester jr)?

^ That's a huge jump and will probably catch their attention.
