I was admitted to UC Irvine and have already submitted my SIR. My grades have slightly slipped in school due to a bad case of senioritis and I could potentially end up getting a D in my AP Chemistry class. I'm just wondering whether this could potentially have the university rescind my admission. Under Irvine's freshman conditions, it stated I needed to avoid a D or F in an A-G course. Is AP Chem an A-G course and does that imply Ds in non-A-G courses are acceptable?

AP Chem is an A-G course and I guess it does imply that but at my California high school, the only non A-G class we have is woodshop. You should contact UCI and tell them your situation. To my knowledge, it’s dealt with on a case to case basis. Although I don’t condone lying, you have the best chance at not getting your admission rescinded if you have a compelling reason for getting the D or F such as a death in the family, relocating, illness, divorce etc. Universities tend to be more strict on rescinding admissions if they over enroll and are more lenient if they don’t get as many students as they expected. So I guess it all comes down to luck but the semester’s not over yet. Just try to bring it up to at least a 69.5% and you won’t have to worry!

To the best of my knowledge. the A-G requirements just require you to take two (but recommend 3) years of lab science – of which physics, biology, chemistry, and their AP variants apply. If I have taken regular physics/bio/chem, AP Chem still counts as an A-G course even if I’ve already fulfilled the requirement and recommendation?

It does not matter if it is a required course. Only that it is an a-g course.
