Title. I am trying to transfer for cs, and through a cross-enrollment program at my community college, I was able to take the entire 61ABC series at UC Berkeley. While I’m sure Berkeley will recognize the courses, how will the other UCs respond? I ask because I took these courses in lieu of the ones some UCs recommended on assist. For example, instead of taking a data structures class at my community college, I took 61B, the data structures class at Berkeley, as I figured I would learn much more. Will this reflect poorly on my application, as I did not take the specific courses listed on assist?
I guess this question generalizes more to anyone transferring from non-California Community Colleges, where the UCs might not have readily available information about the courses offered at those institutions. How are those applicants evaluated?
My daughter has applied to transfer to UCs from a four-year university and is waiting for decisions. She got in touch with the admissions counselor at one of the UCs, the one she thought she was most likely to get into/attend, and asked a lot of questions - i.e. if I take this course at my school (and gave the title and description) can you tell me will that articulate to this requirement, etc. This counselor was very nice about helping answer those kinds of questions. There were times she wasn’t sure if something would fulfill a pre-requisite requirement of the major but mostly she was able to answer the questions. I would just say contact the counselor with plenty of time in advance of when you need the answer as sometimes they are very busy.
Pretty sure all the UCs would recognize ABC. 61A is one of the most renowned computer classes in the country (all 3 of them are) and Data Structures and Computer Architecture are very standard classes.
