How do UC's factor in the essay part of the ACT?

Hi,

So I just took the the third ACT practice test with Princeton Review, and I got a composite score of 31. I was so happy until the essay score was entered and I got a 6. A 6. This roughly converts to an 18 and lowered my ELA score tremendously. I know that the essay score doesn’t affect your composite score but how important do UC’s find it? And it is true that the essay score does not affect the composite score looked at by UC’s, right? I’m kind of freaking out now. Please help.

I got an ACT composite of 34 & a 5 on AP language. My essay score was a 22. From what I’ve heard, I don’t think they care too much about the essay portion of your score.

Ok, thanks. That’s good to know.
