Now that our oldest has become part of the amazing ND family, how do we get them home for fall break? We are about 600 miles away so flying is probably required. I'm only really concerned because of the USC home football game on 10/20/07 that coincides with the start of the break. Daughter obviously wants to stay for the game. Should she wait till some of the confusion dies down and leave on Sunday? How does the game affect the airports/bus ? Which airport would be best and how should she get there? When do most kids return back to ND -- Saturday or Sunday? Thanks for any advice !! Go Irish!

Trance, Sunday will be very busy trying to get out of SB airport, you might be better off taking the bus from campus to chicago and departing from there. RT on th bus is resonable and you will probably have better options for flight out of there. With the game on Sat. everyone will be trying to get out on sunday. look to book flights now. If possible some kids ride share and depending on your location they may be able to share cost if your comfortable with that. Good luck.

Definitely leave Sunday. Coach USA has busses that leave directly from the main circle of campus to the passenger terminals of either Midway or O'Hare airports (depending on the bus). They leave every two hours like clockwork. Our son used to take the bus to Midway to fly Southwest to St. Louis.

It's definitely cheaper to take Coach USA then fly out of Midway or O'Hare than to fly direct out of South Bend. There should be no problem with flight overcrowding either...

This year, with two up on campus, we sent them with a vehicle and they will make the drive, which is 400 miles. I wouldn't be surprised if there were people going in your direction as well. Of course, our son preferred the flights, but that's rather cost prohibitive when you are talking about double bus and airfare...

Thanks for the info! I'll start looking for flights from Midway...

The sooner you book, the cheaper it is. I used to get Internet rates for $49 each way from Midway to St. Louis. The round trip bus from campus to Midway is about $60. That can be booked online as well.

Son is waiting to come home until Monday (flying)--he figured it would give him time to 1. enjoy the game, 2. recuperate from the game, and 3. still catch up on any work that needs to be done! Search hard for good prices-lcheck internet often! Somehow I was able to get a great ticket price within a window of a few hours late one night. We are finding that airfare is much higher this year--gas prices, I guess!!

Enjoy. Freshman year was the only one he came home at Fall break. Soph year was a service project in Ky. Junior year in Rome.
