I was doing a quick countdown of the days until Dec. 15 today when I realized that I actually wasn’t sure at all how we would be notified. It if its by mail (big envelope or small one?) we won’t know until a few days after Dec. 15… or will they send us an email on the 15th? Or is it like Yale where you can check online?

Anyone know?

Big Enevelope=Good
Small Envelope=Bad

I've heard that they send half of them on the 15th and half on the 16th. Unfortunately, the 16th is a Saturday, I believe, and they might then not be sent off untill the 17th. Which I hate. Sometimes I consider just CALLING the office and demanding my decision. :)

I've also read on here, the past year(s) around ED time, of people receiving envelopes with "CONGRATULATIONS!" written across the front, if they've been accepted. I have to say, if i don't see that I'll be destroyed even before I break the seal. And my mother will be confused!

In previous years, the ED admits were done in regular ol' plain white envelopes. I don't know why, but that was just the standard that Brandeis used for years, even before I started working there. I believe there will be a big envelope going out for the admits, but if it's small, don't be put off right away. Open it up and see what it says.

Also remember that there are THREE options for ED admits - Acceptance, Denial, and Deferral. Obviously everyone wants the admit, but if you're deferred, it just means you're considered with the rest of the regular decision applicants, and you'll get a definite answer in late March/early April. If you're deferred, DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO IMPROVE YOUR APP. New SATs, new recommendations, new essay on why Brandeis is your #1 choice... whatever it is, find something to bolster your application even more.

Edit: I suppose I should add that I applied ED, was deferred, and then was accepted during the regular decision process. So yes, a deferral is not necessarily a denial in disguise.

Don't bother calling. You'll get a "Can't tell you" for at least a month after decisions went out.

First of all envelope size means NOTHING! at least not for ED I was expecting a small envelope to be bad, but thats what I got, I was totally suprised to see that I got in. Brandeis sends big blue envelopes that says congrats on them, but i didnt get that until a few months after my acceptence letter....somthing about getting through the mail faster. Also they do not email you, they mail the letters BY the 15, soooo you wont neccesarily get it on the 15, for me last year I got my envelope on the 17th and the postage said it was mailed the 15th......hope this helps!

Actually.. and this will all be in caps so you read it... THE SIZE OF THE ENVELOPE MEANS NOTHING!!!!

Last year I applied and got in early decision. Yet when I got my letter, it was a TEENSY TINY little plain white envelope. The big congratulations one with all the info comes later. DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED IF YOU GET A SMALL ONE!!!!

Nobody told me that and I almost had a heart attack when I got a small envelope in the mail!
