Ok guys I really need help here. So I`m from India looking to pursue Comp Sc in UCB. Whats my best shot at getting in? Should I apply Undeclared, eecs,…what should I do? My priority is getting in, so which of these ways would give me higher possibility of acceptance?
Possible ways:
- Apply to EECS in the College of Engineering. Higher frosh admission selectivity, but you are in the major if admitted.
- Apply to the College of Letters and Science. Not quite as high frosh admission selectivity, but you will enter undeclared, and will have to complete the L&S CS prerequisites with a sufficiently high GPA (currently 3.0) to enter the L&S CS major.
The degree requirements are slightly different. EECS has more math and physics requirements, and allows selection of EE as well as CS courses for junior/senior level major courses.
@ucbalumnus do u know the degree requirements for vs from l&s? And do u know the acceptance rate?
EECS ~ 6-7% idk this year, engineering overall is 9.7%
L&S CS ~ 20% you come in as undeclared
@5oviet So if I come in as undeclared, can I also take subjects like Economics, Political Science etc along with Comp Sc?

yep
those would work well for breadth requirements anyways
@ucbalumnus if you meet 3.0 GPA requirement after 2 years, is the major automatically secured? or will there be additional selection process?
Yes in the sense you hit the cap and there is no reason why you should not get into the major. I haven’t heard of any cases like that, but I have heard of 2.9’s getting in
