At my school you are suppose to just give your brag sheet to the GC and she will write you a letter of rec. I probably have talked to my GC for 5 minutes a couple months ago since I had to go over my senior year schedule with her. I doubt she even remembers my name.
Is it common to ask a GC for a letter of rec? I know a lot of colleges require the GC to write one and fill out a school profile to see how rigorous the school curriculum is.
I am not even sure if I go see my GC and ask her one. I think I just go to the guidance secretary and give her my resume?
I already have one of my history teachers writing me a rec but my colleges specifically want a GC letter of rec. Surely a GC can not say no right even if they do not know the student?
One part of being a high school counselor is writing letters of recommendation. Fill out the brag sheet and hope for the best. At my school with a graduating class of roughly 500 and only 8 (?) counselors for all students, that’s the only thing to do.
That sounds right. Your guidance counselor will be writing letters for hundreds of students, so it’s not a big deal. The “personalized” recommendations will come from your teachers.
What if I have something specific I want the GC to include like a scheduling conflict? Do I just attach a small note along with my brag sheet and give it to the secretary?
