How DO you avoid those darn careless mistakes?

Thread title speaks for itself.

I took another real ACT practice test today and got a 33 (again).
When I reviewed my incorrect answers I noticed that 90% of them were careless mistakes.

So what do YOU do to avoid such mistakes?

(I'm taking the test again in December and am hoping to bump my score up to a 34 or 35).

Read each question carefully

Which practice test did you take? was it a book?

I’m in the same boat as Somewhere2017.

I could easily be a 2400/36-er if not for my dumb mistakes. Every standardized test mistake I’ve ever made was stupid and easily corrected. And yet I can’t stop making these silly errors, even if I am incredibly careful!

SO MADDENING!

If you are a test taker that has learned to succeed while taking tests nervously, you undoubtedly will make more careless mistakes than if you had learned to take the tests with a piece of mind. I can’t tell you how much my own performance has improved after learning to remain calm. Keep doing practice tests until you learn to enjoy the act of taking the ACT. That’s really the only way to ensure that careless mistakes can be avoided.
