How do you become a Regents Scholar?

What factors are considered/important, and how do you become one?

for berkeley you get nominated and go to an interview. nominations are discretionary but generally to be nominated you gota have at least a 3.95 GPA unweighted, take most of the difficult courses your school offers (Berkeley can see which your school offers if youre Californian), 2200+ SAT score, almost all 5s on AP tests, and some to amazing extracurriculars. essentially, they give it to about the top 1-2% of applicants

Oh shoot, my GPA is in the 3.85~3.90s. Are there other ways I can get full financial aid at Berkeley or other UCs if I do not get Regents? (annual income = less than 71,000)

I’m instate, by the way.

i wouldn’t recommend hoping for a regents scholarship at berkeley unless you are one of the top students at your school. also apply for other scholarships.

EDIT: sorry, that article was from two years ago; they now raised to ceiling to $80,000 for next year. see [this press release](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/article/24527</a>)

That satisfies my financial worries, thanks.

I dont necessarily agree with highimpactyoga. I am a regent’s scholar that just got into Berkeley for Fall 2011. I had a 2140 SAT (less than 2200), Less than a 3.95 GPA (mine was around 3.8 something), got three 5’s on AP tests but also a 3 and a 2. And I am Indian so its not because of some URM hook or something. The main thing I would stress is the essays which they claim is the most important factor and is something I would agree made me stand out.

^I do not understand the implications of that picture.
