How do you break out of the math 720-760?

i can never get an 800. the difference is usually 2-4 problems that i get wrong becayse of stupid mistakes. are there any tricks or strategies? i always finish just about on time so i cant go over and recheck as well.

There's no trick to this one. You just have to read, and sometimes reread, the question very carefully so you don't make stupid mistakes.

Just watch out for any traps that the sat ppl try to throw at you and there are quite a few of them. If you're careful you'll catch the traps and go "ooh they're sneaky". If you're not careful you'll just end up making stupid mistakes.

yeah, i kinda figured thats the only thing i could do. thanks for the response.

Don't think of the mistakes you make as "stupid"; the test is stupid. It's stupid because they try to trick you, instead of testing real math reasoning. Go with it. Learn the tricks by doing lots of practice. Check algebraic solutions by plugging in real values. Remember the Joe Blog rules from Princeton Review. Work fast so that you have time to check and doublecheck for their trick answer choices.

underline key words of the question as you read. does it do anything? nah. but it brings your focus to exactly what you're looking for and makes you read every word. are many of your mistakes because you thought the q asked for somethign else? that's what it was for me.

I had the same problem as you...i consistently scored 720-760 and got a 740 1st SAT then second try i broke out and got a 780...ITS HARD THOUGH just bc the difference is 1-3 questions (usually 2 q's) Study only the last 10 q's in each SAt it works bc if you(like me) are always getting 720-760, you dont need to practice the 1st 15. Your bound to get those right, its the medium/hard q's that need to be mastered..GOOd luck!

I also have the same problem. I was scoring between 720 and 800 during 10 Real tests, I find underlining the key parts of the question really helpful. If your good at math you should be able to blaze through the first 12-15 questions, but from there on I usually go a bit slower and double check each question. I also agree with what lock12 said " its the medium/hard q's that need to be mastered " It also depends on luck I guess, I mean sometimes you ace the damn thing and sometimes you don't.

Got 740 first try in December.
