If you are doing this for college applications, don’t. Unless a college asks you to recalculate (very rare), report the GPA as indicated on your transcript. The college will either use that, or will recalculate to their parameters.
No I’m not doing this for college apps. I’m just curious and want know what colleges that I have a good chance to get into and what are my safeties/reaches.
There is no cut and dried method. Some schools use your listed GPA, some recalc with all classes, some only with academic classes. And yes, CC classes for dual credit are counted.
How do most on this site such as the “what are my chances?” forum list their GPA? I know P.E doesn’t count for a majority of colleges but it’s in my GPA that the school gives, which is a good thing. The only college I know that includes everything is UMich.
EYeager I would use your core academic classes and academic electives including arts and engineering type classes. No PE, no careers, no sat. I’d say yes on health. That would be UW. Then for W, well that is subjective. AP is +1. Some will count hon as +1 or .5 so you pick. DE +1. I’d say yes on +/- if your school does. That will give you a rough idea where you are.
Making up a Weighted version doesn’t do any good for anyone. Each school will have its own weighting criteria to use for classes and some don’t use ANY weighting. That’s one reason why weighted GPAs are not very helpful.
SAT Preparation class doesn’t count? The only reason I took that was because the teacher said that it will look very good for colleges since it looks like I’m being prepared. It was also pretty difficult and I just managed to get an A in it.
How do I calculate classes I took at a 4 year university? Since classes are done after 1 semester, how do I calculate it into my high school GPA? If I got an A, do I put the A in as 1 time, 2 times or 3 times?
