Your grade right now is a 95.333…%. (50+50+43)/150.

You want a 96, so you need to solve:
.96=x/200
x=192

192 points out of 200 will give you a 96 average.

192-(50+50+43) = 192-143 = 49.

You need a 49 to get a flat even 96. To get a 95.5, you need a 48.

I like both.

It seems like the 2nd one, though requires 2 equation set up. where as the 1st one is only 1 equation, except you have to scale the 96 grade, which i dont understand.

thanks to you both.

It only requires two equations because I was spelling it out for you. If you want, I could have done that all in one equation.

you scale the 96 because the final grade is out of 100.

The quizzes are out of 50, so you multiply 96 by 50/100, which simplifies to 1/2.

Alternatively, you could have scaled up your quiz grades by 100/50, which is the same as multiplying the raw score by 2.

4 quizzes –> 200 points
96% –> 8 points off
43, 50, 50 –> 7 points off
remaining test –> 1 point off
50 - 1 –> 49

Can anyone help me with an equation. i need help trying to solve what i need to get on my math final exam that is worth 20% and my current grade is a 79.9 right now…im really bad at math so if someone could help that’d be great…muchas gracias…

0.799*0.8 = 0.6392

If you want an 80+, you need
.8-.6392 = .1618

this is 20% so

.1618/.2 = 80.4%

Myrmidon, you should start charging for this.
