How Do You Calculate Your GPA?

Hey Guys,

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I have never been sure how to figure out my gpa on the 4.0 scale. I know how to figure out the overall average, but I'm not sure if it's similar in any way.

My first semester just finished, so here is how it turned out.

English 2 Honors- 92
Religion- 89
Geometry-87
German-82
Latin 2-80
Chemistry-80

Wasn't sure how to figure it out. But would appreciate any feedback? Thanks..

First, turn your grades into letters:

English 2 Honors = A-
Religion = B+
Geometry = B+
German = B-
Latin 2 = B-
Chemistry = B-

Your GPA is 3.06666666667, using the method given by the College board. Here is the link:
[How to Convert Your GPA to a 4.0 Scale](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>How to Convert (Calculate) Your GPA to a 4.0 Scale – BigFuture)

Above a 3.0 is solid, and in your case, not too much more effort would be required to get Religion and English up to A’s. Also, do try to get those B-'s up to at least B’s. But if you got those grades up a little, you would have:
English = A
Religion = A
Geometry = B+
German = B
Latin 2 = B
Chemistry = B
GPA= 3.38, which looks much better than 3.0666666667.
Good luck.

EDIT: Oh, on the plus side, your classes are somewhat impressive, just get your grades up a little (And avoid C’s). And please, take Latin all four years of high school. It looks great and only gets easier as you get better. I took Latin 2 H freshman year, got a B+ with a huge effort, and am now taking AP Latin Vergil with an A, with far less effort. You seem pretty smart, but you need to do a bit more work.

Just view it as a game if you find yourself unmotivated.

Thanks for the feedback! I was disappointed in myself in the grades I received in chemistry and latin 2. The first marking periods I struggled, but did much better in the second marking period to bring it back up.

My parents are keep suggesting to me to take latin all four years. The way our school works is next year I am taking history, so if I take latin for a third year that would be considered as my elective.

Overall though, it’s early in sophomore year, so I have plenty of time to get my grades up where I need it to be.

I hear ya. First quarter for me is always the hardest. Luckily, I’m a junior so I’m almost done with high school.

Just aim for straight A’s and see what you get. Always aim really high, so that way you work hard, and though you may not get straight A’s (which I dont, BTW) you still get good grades.

You are obviously intelligent. Your grades are just a matter of work. And taking latin all four years was probably my smartest decision, so I definitely advise it.
