I made a Wolverine Friends account just now...Yeah...
How do I check my decision?

There should be a link that says view decision. If not then they haven't made one on you yet.

Go to New and Prospective Student Business on Wolverine Access. Log in with your Friend Account password and login ID. If your decision is available - a view decision link will be available.

my d was deferred back in jan or feb...that decision was never put on her view status etc section of her wolverine account...did anyone who was deferred ever see that decision show up online?...not knowing about michigan is driving our house crazy...still feeling like the process can not move forward in deciding because there is a constant "but what if she gets into michigan"...i think april 15th is way to late to notify...and frankly obnoxious...sorry for the vent

smw - The deferrals do not show up online.

Agree with you 100% about April 15 being too late. Totally obnoxious. It really is turning my S off to the school.

Deferrals do not show up online.

April 15th is late in comparison with the other top notch schools. However do vent your fustration towards the admissions office and not the school itself.
A student ought not to dislike a fantastic university like Michigan on the basis of when the give their admission decision.

Good Luck

gomez: Isn't a scared 18-year-old justified in taking the Admissions Office's behavior towards him as one clue to how the University administration as a whole will treat him if he gets in?

Waiting until April 15 or later to communicate decisions when most other major universities require DEPOSITS by May 1 is pretty arrogant. I don't see why that shouldn't be taken as a sign of an arrogant institution.

If you had defended Mich's administration as helpful and compassionate and cast Admissions as an aberration, that would be different. But I notice you don't.

And by comparison to other top schools, U Mich has a HUGE app pool. They admitted around 12,300, with 5,400 students actually coming this year

Looking at comparable schools like Dartmouth

Undergraduates 4,085
Postgraduates 1,668

Incomming freshmen almost outnumber the people already at Dartmouth

Other Universities of the same size like U Penn still has less than U Mich

U Penn

Undergraduates 9,718
Postgraduates 10,103

U Mich

Undergraduates 25,555
Postgraduates 14,470

Of course your son has a right to be scared in thinking that the admissions office won't give him a second thought. Everyone that applies to here has that feeling though. It's one of the flaws of a big University is the lack of individual attention, before and after admissions. However talking with some friends, most of them agree that U-M does a damn fine job of taking care of their students after they get in. Other than the Grad students teaching for your first or so year, it's not that bad.

Roscoe, I can't speak for the whole University (since I obviously haven't dealt with everyone), but most everyone I've talked to has been fabulous. This is coming from someone who waited 5 months for a decision. I haven't even paid my ERD yet so I'm not officially a student. Yet, each concentration advisor I've e-mailed to ask questions has invited me to meet them and discuss my options. Before I've even attended orientation I've already selected my majors, filled out the declaration forms, and started talking about what my honors thesis for each department might be (and who might be good to work with for that). So don't judge the University as a whole because there are not enough admissions people to get everything done as quickly as we might like (or financial aid officers for that matter :-p).

An 18 year old would be displaying ignorance then.

I , too have made contact with numerous representatives of the college , whether it be the admissions office , BBA represtantives , course advisors and the International Centre. If I would go to Michigan right now , I would know exactly what to do. All my emails have bee responded to within 48 hours.

So to pass judgement on the entire administration stems out of your own ignorance of the university system. I will not be drawn into an argument over the varying emotions for and against universities. My last post on this topic.
Cheers.

Awww, don't stoop to name-calling and then run away cryin'.

If you think having an e-mail not "bee responded to" for two days shows an administration full of responsive "represtantives," more power to ya. To me it's just another example of arrogance, along with this "mid-April" crap, which you don't even try to defend.

Michigan's a fine school, but leaving kids hanging this long is beyond the pale, and I'm sure it's not a complete aberration from the University's overall character.

Roscoe, relax. I know it's frustrating. The answer is coming. My daughter goes to Michigan. It's a great school. If your son gets in, he should consider it despite the length of the admission process.

The school should stop taking applications on Jan 15th and things will run smoother. The school is not arrogant. There is room for improvement.

In his defense, he never called any names. Just implied that your son was ignorant.

With that being said, have you never been busy that you just didn't have time to properly read and send back an email? As a college student now, I'm coming up on the week where I am so busy that I literally do not have time to do anything else. I don't really go eat, nor do I sleep much.

Think about being in the adcoms shoes, being busy, and reviewing people's apps all day. It's busy work, and if you can't see that, then I don't know what else I can say.

Can anyone help me? It said that my decision will be mailed to me. But I know that previously my friends who were accepted got their decision immediately through email. Does that mean that I was rejected?

I believe so. Sorry :(

-"In his defense, he never called any names. Just implied that your son was ignorant."-

Heh. Suitable for framing.

Roscoe, is there a third link now on your son's WA?

Heh. Suitable for framing.

Coming from an adult, I expected more. Should I lower my expectations or are you an exception?

Quote where he did any name-calling. Hint, Ignorance isn't one.

You said a really dumb thing. "He never called any names, he just said your son is ignorant." ROFL. Don't try to salvage it with nastiness or sarcasm or hair-splitting. It just makes it worse.

Back to the topic at hand, my son just called Michigan to try to find out where he stands (still no third link), and the lady treated him like dirt. He's getting fed up with this school. Yes, I understand that's just the Admissions Office, but that office is part of, and an important public face of, the university.

Yeah, we should all probably boycott.
