"Go where ever suits you best, where ever makes you happy."
"Go to where ever is cheapest."
"Go to which ever is well known, to the school with a better ranking and name."

As we make our decisions, its hard to take all these things into factor because most of the time they conflict with each other.

So I'm curious - how are you gonna choose?

Honestly, I chose among the places that were still accepting applications in April. If I had been a mature and responsible young man at the time, I would have realized that a place with a good fit was most ideal.

College isn't cheap, but remaining ignorant is. You will most likely incur debt as a part of your professional training and development. This is an unfortunate aspect of our educational system but the payoff in job responsibilities, opportunities and salary compensate for that.

Academic prestige is a strange matter. If you go to a place that isn't a good fit, you won't achieve as much as you otherwise could. Attending a school for a brand name is ridiculous if you aren't able to exercise your personal ambition and capitalize on the opportunities available. The ultimate payoff of going to a highly ranked school may be in easing admissions for graduate school, easing applications for jobs or earning the respect of people you meet. However, these are all things that require an effort on your part and a prestigious college degree won't do it for you.

I did some googling on making college decisions and found this website that has free worksheets. Might be worth a look.
