How do you choose?

I applied to 4 schools and presuming I have more than 1 offer, I don't know how I will choose between them. What criteria did you use to choose between your offers?

Also, if anyone has any specific thoughts on the schools I'm applying to, I welcome that feedback. The schools are: St. James, Mercersburg, Westtown and George.

Welcome to CC! You have four very different schools there, only one of which (Mercersburg) is commonly discussed on this forum. (You can do a search for “Mercersburg” to see what people have said about it.) If you are fortunate enough to be offered a place at more than one school, revisit days are a huge help. You should take advantage of that opportunity to visit each school and see how it feels to you. In the meantime, George School is offering an overnight/open house for applicants on February 20 - which would be a great opportunity to visit that school and see how you like it.

Beyond that, I can tell you that George has horses and Westtown doesn’t; Westtown has younger day students, while George is a high school only; and there are significant differences in the classes and extracurriculars they offer.

If you can, revisit days are helpful for those who can’t make up your mind. You get a full day to explore the campus, can sit in on classes, and - at least in my daughter’s case - hang out in the dorm and meet other kids. May depend on who the guide is. The school my daughter ultimately chose allowed her to stay after the revisit schedule was over to attend a Latin class which is one of her favorite subjects.

I also noted that schools separate the parents and incoming students so each has a different experience.

Choosing is hard - but surely one school affected you more than the others. If not, that may become more clear in the spring once you digest the packets and go back for a second look.

I’ve never gotten to expirience having more than one offer, but I honestly would think the decision would come naturally. I agree with the post above me; check out the revisit days. Feel the vibe of the school. Can you see yourself there? Talk to some people attending, can you see yourself with them? I think when you find the school you’ll just know. That sounds cliche, yes.

When you have the offers on the table, I honestly think that at least in the back of your mind you’ll have an idea of which one’s right for you. Talk to your parents about it and get theie opinion.

Good luck!
