How do you count your GPA if you are going for pre-med?

do MCB courses count in this calculation?

Woah, Texas medical schools don’t differentiate between A/A-/B+/B/B-/C+? There is going to be a stark difference in my texas medical school gpa and my amcas gpa. Do all schools that use the amcas use the A/A-/B+/B/B-/C+ gpa system? Anyone know about baylor’s medical school (I know it is private, but I am curious how they calculate gpa)? <<< Not that I can get in rofl

Baylor uses the AAMC application. All aamc using schools get their GPA calculations from the AAMC data (which conveniently calculates it), though I guess if they really wanted to they could go through and calculate it another way. Considering how much work this would be, that is pretty unlikely.

I believe all UTs (undergraduates, not UT’s medical schools) have just started to give out A/A-/B+/B etc.

A question is: When will UT medical schools start to differentiate between A/A-/B+/B/B-/etc. ? How about Texas A&M, TCOM or Texas Tech medical schools? Are they going to follow the lead of UT medical schools when UT medical schools start to differentiate between plus and minus? I admit that I did not follow TMDSAS’s move closely.

D. said that even grades from her 2 minors are counted into GPA, even the grade for her hiking trip abroad that she recieved 6 credit hours (included projects, presentations), she said absolutely every single grade with “A-” putting you below 4.0

For undergraduate schools that only give out As/Bs/Cs and not A/A-/B+/B/B-, how would medical schools that take into account A/A-/B+/B/B-? If the school only gives out letter grades?

An A would be 4, a B would be 3, etc.

Yeah, if your school doesn’t give out +/- they just treat it like they would if you did go to a +/- school but never got one. Meaning 4, 3, 2, 1. Kind of sucks for you guys in my opinion, because everything below an A is more damaging than if you just got an A- or something.

^ I actually like the 4/3/2/1 system because it helps me more than the 4/3.7/3.3/3.0/2.7 system. I might make 2 A-s in classes this semester, so that would really help me out. Its a good thing I am a Texas resident.

^ Which class year are you in? As I wrote above, the method of calculating GPA may be changed in the near future just because UT Austin has changed its grading system.

Boy, some neurotic premeds at UT are thinking of transferring to A&M because of this change of grading system.

College, that’s because you are gettings A-s. If you were getting high B+s you would be glad to have +/-. It’s one of those 50% for and 50% against situations.

Consider this just for fun. D’s “A-” was for “Sight Singing” class in her Music minor! This is graded by prof. in very subjective manner, D could have had a sore throat that day. It resulted in GPA for semester being below 4.0 and her not making President list in that semester, which is reflected in all kind of applications (grants, scholarships). She is cool with that, but not everybody would.
