How do you deal with narrative passages ???

Hi,
In narrative passages, sometimes I can understand the main idea of the passages. However, I always got wrong in answering inference questions. How do you deal with these passage - your reading method and ways to infer ???
Thank in advance !!!

read the questions first -- and then read the text with the questions in mind.

^ I respectfully disagree with this advice. By the time i read all the questions and go to the article, i've forgotten what the questions ask, wasting valuable time. This method maybe works for some, but definatly not for everyone.

As for the narrative passages, the "inference" questions don't really make you infer all that much. The correct answer is usually just paraphrasing a sentence in the article. Just make sure you can find which sentence. Most of the time, the ordering of the questions will tell you where to look, but sometimes not.
