How do you explain a special situation to colleges in application?

Hi!

I'm in a situation where I skipped a grade in elementary school, but my parents always wanted me to spend more time with kids my own age, so when I transferred schools at the end of 10th grade, I repeate 10th grade. So, now I have 2 grade 10 grades.... it's definitely not because I couldn't keep up with the class (had a 4.0 at end of first 10th grade)...

How do I explain this situation to the colleges I'm applying to? Is there a special place on the Common App to explain this sort of thing?

Thanks in advance!

You could put it in the Additional Information section of the CA, but I’d recommend you have your GC address this in their evaluation.

A lot of time on CC, people say they have a “special situation,” but really it is a situation that a lot of people have and the poster doesn’t realize it and thinks he/ she is special. This really is unique, or uncommon at the very least : )

I second what entomom says.

Why would your parents do something so stupid?

mythbuster: haha well if people knew it’s not an uncommon situation, they wouldn’t ask such questions right? I just used the word special as in “not regular”, not becuase I’m self absorbed or something LOL so please don’t get picky

nextbigthing: sigh…it’s very complicated…but I don’t regret the choice~ my previous school was super easy that when I got to my new school (a very well known international school in china) I found out how uninformed I was haha So if I transferred during my junior year, I would have been pretty screwed and overwhelmed~

Okay, thanks for everyone’s advice~~ I’ll make sure to tell my GC about this^^
