How do you explain interest in political science?

I have to write an essay on my intended major (political science) and am having trouble putting my interest into words.

One way you could go about it is describing your introduction to the field of study. Did you become interested in political science after joining a club, reading a book, etc.? You can also think about what makes political science different from subjects that you don’t like. Maybe it will be easier for you to describe why you aren’t interested in other subjects, and this can help you articulate why you are interested in political science.

I faced this problem too but found its easy to express your interest in the field by picking on your experiences. As an applicant to many UK unis, it was fun to write about books I’ve read and those learnings, so maybe you could try that. For me, it was a particular event after which I had this newfound inclination towards politics and IR. Not quite sure if this helps but I gave it a shot

Did a particular election or campaign or politician catch your interest? a particular issue? The manner in which people discuss issues? Differences between the parties?

What sparked your interest…you can start with that specifically and then talk about how you generally want to study it.

I am an engineer and was drawn to engineering because I liked the way math and science problems have a defined answer…not subjective like english. I like that I can think logically through a problem but also be creative in finding a solution.

What is it you like about PoliSci?
