Just curious, how are you guys paying for college?

financial aid, scholarships, work. hopefully no loans, or maybe a little...that i can cover with summer job.

I'm currently searching for the Philosopher's Stone.

If that doesn't pan out, I'll just sell a kidney.

Oh crap...you were serious? Loans. Lots of loans.

i know i know. i'm just trying to convince myself that there's other ways than loans...

Loans aren't SO bad. After all, a mortgage is just a huge loan that you'll pay off for the rest of your sorry life.

But yeah, turns out scientists have already transmuted lead into gold. The only catch? It costs more to do it than the gold is worth in the end! Sadness!

well i am too going to take a loan....i have to....but i am not sure whether to take it from an indian bank or from a US one....i am looking for around $50K from loans...

Consider where you plan on working, where you see the currencies going, and the interest rates.

US loans usually have a locked in interest rate for student loans (as long as you consolidate.) The same doesn't necessarily apply elsewhere. Do your research, and be careful.

and enlit what kinda work are you talking about??....theres hardly any work opportunities for intels (atlast for the first year)....and whatever little jobs that there are don't have high salaries....they might be just enough to cover up your room rent but thats it...

I'm talking your long-term career and where you plan on having it, not your silly part-time job cooking dorm hamburgers.

By the way, I knew several international students who got part-time jobs as UCLA just during their one year abroad. It can be done.

and one other thing i wanted to ask for quite some time....at the time of visa, do u need to show "liquid money" for your entire stay in the US (4 years) or can asests work??

exactly thats what i meant....but they still can't substitute your tuition fees....but anyways any ideas on my previous question??

I'm not entirely sure, but I sincerely doubt you'll be expected to land at the airport with a suitcase full of $100 bills. :p

no when u are applyin for visa at the US embassy....do they need that much amount of money in our banks?? or can an equivalent worth of assests be shown to them....theres a lot of difference between the two....

...

I was joking. I really don't know. I just wanted to inject humor...

Dammit, where's DRab when I need him to reel me in?

parents...and hopefully scholarships

dexter87: I'm applying to private LAC's... Financial Aid comes with work-study (on campus, little pay but according to friends, quite sufficient for things like toothpaste ;)). Summer jobs pay around 1000-1500 per month. But I suppose that's dependant on what job you get.

parents, no fin aid.
I will definetly be helping out my parents by getting jobs (but i heard that intels cant get jobs?!).
Not gonna be taking out loans. loans are baaaad.
But if i do apply to Princeton, I'll will applying for finaid where it'd be all grants.

For Americans, loans aren't neessarily bad. Loans can be good, because they help a person build their credit history.

the lovely norwegian government is footing 75% of my tuition and living expenses, and 2 tickets back home every year to my family for three years :)

the other 25% is paid by my 'rents

Whoa! Can I be Norwegian too? :p
