How do you gain leadership (skills) in college when you're starting out as a freshman??

Get involved in organizations at your school. They all usually have leadership positions, where you can plan and run activities, fundraisers, volunteering events, or something similar. Your school will likely have leadership positions (associated student body or something like that) that you could run for. If you volunteer at or work for certain organizations, there may also be room for advancement over time, where you can get more a supervisory or leadership role. There may also be student leadership positions in your major’s department. There are also things like being an RA or a TA that would help you develop leadership skills.

Baktrax has a very good start. Get involved early so that way you have time to establish yourself to move up to a board position. Schools also have some type of student body government or on-campus event planning board. These are considered leadership. Another good way is to join a fraternity or sorority. A lot of these stress on leadership skills and often times have workshops/conferences/etc. for leadership.
