How do you get generic college mail?

Right now I'm a sophmore in highschool. I know they don't mean alot, but a bunch of my friends have been getting generic college brochures/come to our school letters, nothing person, just the generic mail. I have done WAY more college research than any of my friends have, and I have received one small brochure from University of Miami in Oxford Ohio. None of them have taken the ACT, PSAT, or done anything uber amazing to get these letters, they have just come to them. As sad as this seems, I want some of that generic-college mail, mostly because I want more info on colleges, and so I can say I got this from college X.

Sign up at the school’s admission website and they will send you shiny brochures and fliers. You will receive junk mail for the rest of your life, I don’t know that you should be this excited for it to start.

dude, youre not missing anything special. i dont really know why they would get them if the didnt take the PSATs, thats where most of mine are coming from. some are coming from something else, but none of them are random.

most of them are just annoying to me, as most of them are from colleges i have absolutely no interest in, and even the few (approximately five, and one from a good school i just odnt want to go to) that are interesting are extremely generic and unpersonal.

that vast majority are from john doe college in nowhereville, midwesternstate, that boasts a diverse student body, an x:1 student teacher ratio that provides for an intimate classroom setting where you are a person, not just a number. it is also just one hour away from the nearest major city providing for internships. but the best way to really get to know john doe college is to come for a visit, so join us for a fascinating information session sometime in the spring.

a lot of them also say that choosing a college is a daunting task, and if i just mail in the little card, theyll send me a guide on the five most important things when choosing a college or which college is right for you?

trust me bro, youre not missing much

you do not want this.

Take the SAT.

^ Yeah, after you take the SAT you get a lot of stuff if u allow them to release your info.

I got IVY stuff last year from Yale; invitations to events like Seminars and Introduction to Yale stuff, they were really helpful to understand the IVY league.

I also got stuff from Florida State, USC, Boston College, but they were mainly letters of how awesome their schools are.

The mail still comes, yes, but it’s not so bad, sometimes it even has free stickers or something cool like postage stamps
