Hi Everyone! :] I was wondering how do you get into NHS? O.O; For leaderships what do you have to do? Is it good to be in NHS or not? I'm kind of curious. Thanks!

It depends on your school, but usually, students are invited when they have a high enough GPA. Then they fill out a application form, which is reviewed by facualty members.

Getting into NHS depends on your high school............at mine kids with a certain gpa or higher get in........other schools have different requirements

It's good to be in NHS but it's not worth much on your college resume because so many people are in it

it's not really anything. just another line on your resume. but in our case you can join if you have a cumulative GPA of 3.5. Also you need to write a little essay.

For mine, you have to have a certain GPA (3.5w or 3.9w, I'm not sure which) and then do 25 hours of community service

I think that NHS will only benefit your app if you are really involved in it. Whatever service activities that you participate in can act as possible essay / short answer questions in the future. It's a great way to get involved in the community. It's not really that difficult to be accepted into NHS at my school. But I guess it depends on the school.

Ah. My school is wonderful with NHS. You can't get it without leadership qualities and community service. GPA requirements are low (89 and above). Frankly, I think GPA is last on their importance list.

To repeat what everyone has been saying, it varies from school to school. But at my school, you need at least a 3.2 GPA to get in then you have to write an essay and then they basically accept everyone. But to stay in the club your GPA have to remain above a 3.2 and you must compete a certain amount of community service hours a week.

Thanks everyone! ^_^

It's not hard to get into NHS, at least at our school. But, as with anything, what you get out of a club like that is what you put into it. If you get really involved in the club and contribute a lot, obviously it's going to be a lot more valuable than if you didn't do much. So yeah, I wouldn't say it was necessarily just another line on your resume. :)

At our school, to get into NHS, it's more important to have had a lot of community service hours and leadership activities; GPA doesn't seem to be as big of a factor, although I think you need at least a 3.5? maybe? I forget.

3.3 GPA
100 hours of community service
Joined school clubs before...

Our school is highly selective. You must have some minimum GPA which i do not know. Then you must be nominated by teachers (and i believe its select teachers, as well), and the nomination must be analyzed for having proper reasoning. Then we are notified of our nomination via mail, and we are to pick up our application, and we must show our letter for proof of nomination. Then we fill out the application, and turn it in. The application is based mostly on awards, services, and leadership. You can also pad it with a mini-essay about qualities you're teachers may have missed. Then you may get selected. most sophomores do not get in.(one if any). And a few juniors and seniors. I think there are 10 admittees or so a year. It is the most selective group on campus

At my school, you need to be at least a junior, have at least a 3.4 GPA, and have some extracurricular activities.

Much as I would like to say it matters it really doesnt. Colleges know that each school has different criteria and it is not standardized. So it really makes no sense. Plus most of the elite school applicants have this already so other criteria must define them.

I just got it... in my school, if you have a GPA above 93 you are put on a list which is emailed to all teachers. Unless you are vetoed by two teachers, you are in.

I got into NHS :D The advisor handed me the slip and then said, "HOWEVER...you must SPEAK!" or something along those lines. Yeah. I'm not a good public speaker.

We have to fill a form with leadership and community service and all...which is why I didn't make it last year. 0 leadership, 0 community serive :D

Congrats zoogies!

haha i got my acceptance letter today for NHS. i didnt think i was going to make it because two of my close friends who have since graduated did not make it their junior or senior year. i'm guessing some faculty member didn't like them. we have to fill out this application, where all of your activities have to be signed by a supervisor. it's so frustrating to have to find advisors to sign everything, and then we have to fill out our leadership positions, comm service, etc. and write an essay. i heard NHS takes up a lot of time, but oh well i'm in now so we'll see.

Congrats to everyone who got in! :] Maybe I should try it out next year. ^_^ Thanks for all your help you guys!

my claim to fame is being inducted into NHS and put on the failing list for my chem grade on the same day! I did get the grade back to where it belongs but that was so ironic and funny.
