bump............

I went in 2005 and am glad I did. It's called NYU Precollege. It's not competitive like undergrad. I had a low B, but near perfect SAT scores when I applied and got in. I think it's just a way for NYU to cash in on empty slots in classes regular NYU students take -- I think the program costed me roughly 3-5k per class. It's only worth if you ace it really. There's no dorming, very little, if any, social life. I liked it because I got to explore NYU before I actually went and put me ahead of the game for when regular undergrad started.

For the record, it DOES NOT help you for undergrad admission. Don't think that if you got into this that you will get into regular NYU. It's exclusive to NY state residents because they don't allow precollege kids to dorm since they're too young, so the competition is a lot lower to get in. Kids still get denied though.

Flip through my old posts and I think I wrote something very detailed about my experience there and at Harvard SSP, but that's the jist of it.

--edit--

to answer your question directly about how you get in: there's no actual application. you go online, follow the directions, send your transcript along with a recommendation I think and that's it.

I think the Summer Program has changed since 2005. It is very competitive. You submit an online application and have to write an essay - at least to the program attended here. Two teacher recommendations were required along with a transcript. A committee reviewed the applications and it took about a month and a half to two months to hear from it. There were only 24 places in the program.

You sure? They said on the sites it's a registration process not an admission process

Nyu.edu/summer

Ohhh I'm doing something different . This isn't precollege, I'm doing summer in Greenwich village.

The program I was referring to was the Summer High School Program. You received college credit for it.

I am actually looking into the program (Programs for High School). I already received a teacher recommendation. I probably jumped the gun on that one, but oh well!

On the contrary of HopefulNYUParent, I don't think it's that competitive. There are, most definitely, more than 24 places. Hell, there are over 24 classes. I am sure the enrollment is at least a hundred or two. Additionally, on the forums, a representative posted that the average accepted was a B+. If it was super competitive, I'm sure that'll be crashing around an A, or even an A+.

I'm not doing precollege. I'm a senior in hs now, so I figured Greenwich would be better

The program we applied to only had 24 spots. There are more programs that the one we attended.

Yes, two different programs are being discussed here.

My dd did Summer Pre-College in Photo. Earned 6 college credits. Instructors were amazing. She learned so much! Very competitive. Only 16 slots. Fairly intensive application process: recommendtions, essay, creative resume, transcripts.
She did it between her sophomore and junior year. It literally changed her life.

My dd did the high school film at tisch last summer. 56 slots. It was fairly intensive application process. There were 200 applicants; we were told. So the odds are better then ED but you still have to be picked to participate. Like the pp it changed my dd's life. She was always interested in film but the experience at NYU was amazing.

How hard is it to get an A in these classes?

I dont want to pay around 4,000 for a B.

I'll check out the summer in Greenwich program. Probably take a class at Stern

My dd was in film and they worked or were in class from 9am until about 10pm almost every weekday. On editing days it was sometimes until 1am. She ended up getting 6 credits of A's NYU.

So that's a 4.0?

bump...............

I know this post is old and you probably won’t see it but, what’s the difference between Summer in Greenwich and NYU Pre college? I don’t live in NYC, I currently live in Memphis but I plan to go to NYC for the summer.
