how do you get straight a's

i’m usually getting b’s, a’s, and c’s .
i want to know what you people with 4.0 gpa’s do to achieve it.

Study. Study, study, and study some more.
I know for a fact that oftentimes, getting the material doesn’t come very easily to me, and I have to review it a lot after school. For example, I usually do Spanish practice (for grammar & vocab) outside my class; I do extra chem and math problems to review concepts. For execution - although maybe not for understanding the concepts - practice, as monotonous as it is, can be the best thing!

Also, for humanities classes - I read the textbook, sometimes more than two times (particularly for history, although this is helpful with developing conceptual knowledge with science). The first time is usually a skim and the second time is a more in-depth review.

If I feel unsure about a concept, I try to read sections on it outside of textbook & notes, in order to get to the point that I have enough of a grasp on it to recite it/explain it by heart without looking at notes and such.

But probably the most important thing - I’m really passionate about every subject I take! I want to do well, but I also find most of the material I cover in my classes scintillating. I think it’s imperative to find something you enjoy about your subjects, to make studying seem less like a chore

I hope this helped! Sorry it was kinda long.

Like @desideratum said, study.

But a bit beyond that is don’t be afraid to ask others for help! Teachers are usually more than willing to help you with something outside of class, and you can try asking your classmates too!

If you do have trouble with a concept, and you .cannot understand it from your textbook and notes, try looking for other sources (like videos or online explanations)

There are tons of resources on the internet designed to help students achieve at a higher level than they have been able to in the past. There is no secret easy solution tho. Getting better grades usually involves becoming more organized and more efficient but also spend more time or smarter time. Also, you don’t have to have straight A’s as a goal. Set a goal of getting a better grade in each class each semester than you got in the semester before. Determination and grit is also key. Be determined to improve.

Quizlet is an excellent way to make studying more efficient. Don’t just take notes in class…actually think about what the teacher is saying, and try to absorb it.

Always read the textbook! That’s definitely my number one tip. I’m surprised by how few people do.

Taking good notes is important as well. My notes were a mess my first two years of high school and so I never really got anything out of them. When I started to take good notes, however, I definitely noticed my grades improving because I could actually study from my notes.

There are also a ton of videos online (like CrashCourse) for various subjects that are really helpful. They’re short(ish) and entertaining. I’ve found CrashCourse really helpful for a lot of my classes.

It’s also important to ask for help if you need it. I got a math tutor my sophomore year of high school because I was struggling in Algebra II/Trig and that helped immensely. I ended up with a mid B first semester and high B second semester which was awesome because otherwise I probably would’ve ended up with a low B/high C.

Studying is definitely key to success but you also need to really want to do well and you need to be willing to work for it.

Know when you know it and know when you don’t know it. This means knowing when you’re telling yourself you know it. It took me a while to learn but whenever I do poorly I know I’ll do poorly walking into the exam.

If something counts for your grade, do the best you can on it, and know that you need to do some memorization for most–if not all classes.

For math (and mathematical sciences like chemistry and physics), practice is the way to go. If you’re just looking at the notes you took in class, you’re probably not absorbing much.

Study, ask questions, do your work and turn it in. Too many of my friends with C or B averages have low grades simply because they like to goof off after school, they’re too shy to talk to their teachers when they don’t get something or need help, and an OVERWHELMING MAJORITY just don’t do the work they’ve been assigned!!

First off, you will need to have a positive attitude towards ur studies. Try to put ur 100% (or just work hard) in homework. If you get A’s in hw then quizzes and tests should be easy. Quizzes/tests are so annoying and it might be easy to procrastinate BUT remember the golden ‘A’! You want good grades, u better be willing to commit every night finishing all your studies (hw, quizzes, tests). This means EVERY single thing ur teacher assigns (exp. lit essay). Yup, even tho it might be a really small assignment (it could still kill ur grade).

Studying could be the issue. Either u don’t have time to study or u need help. Help meaning u didn’t understand something. ASK SOMEONE FOR HELP!! Oh my goodness, the teacher or another student: u need to ask the questions. The questions are the deal. And don’t waste nights, hours on easy things } procrastination is not ur bud. It’s gonna mess u up. Like ur phone, laptop, friends etc can distract u. Even ur study place can be distracting with loud music/noises. Don’t study in bed, it just makes u drowsy.

Keep a notebook/calendar to keep track of hw u need to do and check things ur done. TAKE NOTES CUZ THEY ARE SO USEFUL FOR STUDYING OR HW!!! Make sure ur organized and find assignments easily when turning them in. Surround urself with hardworking ppl or the ppl who get A’s and become good friends (like study buddies who help each other out with when things are due/hw). You want to keep a positive attitude always even when u get low grades or a bad day (there are definitely those days but u gotta keep ur attitude up or else u will fall). Be known as a studious student by answering questions ur teacher asks (or absorb info if ur an introvert). Also, keep in mind, this is gonna be hard!! U want to focus on work, but procrastination is ur enemy! dont let him win!

Best idea: straight A’s are only fun if u want to be proud! Yes, the A’s will come once u realize u want to be proud of them. Straight A’s make u look and sound smart so ur reputation will change as a “the person who knows what to do.” And u could tell ur highschool/college/idk that I did really well and that will increase ur likeliness of getting into that school! Since u asked this question, I hope u best luck!

Organization is key. It is your responsibility to be on top of deadlines and commitments. Religiously plan your homework and afterschool activities in your planner and stick to your to-do lists. Use post-its, ask your parents/friends to remind you, write on your hands - find what works for you.

Some students have stronger academic backgrounds or natural academic aptitude that make it easy to make As, but even then, they have to work hard to actually do all the required work and turn it in on time.

At the beginning of each semester, look carefully at the syllabus for each course and not how your grade will be determined, and whether there will be any opportunities for extra credit. Track your progress throughout the semester. Always challenge a grade if something doesn’t seem right – teachers make mistakes, too. I helped my daughter in this regard, and I can tell you that her high grades in some classes were a direct result of tracking grades and challenging teacher mistakes!

Communicate with your teachers. Many of them will offer you a chance to bring your grade up if you only tell them what is going on. For example, if you were sick or you had several projects due at once, let them know.

Go to all of the available teacher sessions possible for any classes that you are not making an A in. Teachers give extra explanations that can make a huge difference in understanding. It is worth arriving early at school or staying late to get the extra help that will ensure a high grade.

Let the teacher know you want to make an A early on in the class, and if things start to falter, communicate with the teacher to ask what you can do to bring up the grade. Do this even if the semester is almost over. Extra credit projects are often available if you ask.

Many students take extra classes in math and sometimes English outside of school throughout their school years. Some start at age 4 and continue through high school taking math classes on a weekly basis that require daily homework. They will of course have grades way above other students who are not making this extra effort! This is pretty standard among many top Asian students. Don’t think that you need to be failing to get help. Quite the contrary – get help to ensure you can easily make As! If you cannot afford tutoring, then find free help online or – as already mentioned – go to teachers for whatever free help they offer outside of class.

Lastly, study with top students in each subject you think you will have difficulty with. When I was in high school, I couldn’t grasp chemistry, but the girl next to me was making 100s. I finally asked to study with her, and she taught me some things that opened my eyes enough to where I could make As. My daughter found that AP Computer Science came naturally to her, but a classmate couldn’t understand it for anything. That classmate finally asked my daughter for help, and they go together and my daughter was able to explain concepts to her so she understood them. The people making As around you are sources of help!

turn off the wifi and listen to extremely repetitive music, and make your parents take away 1 dollar from you for every 5 minutes you don’t seem focused.

Study, effort, pay attention in class, practice, get organized, and NEVER EVER give up, guess, or going ahead and cheat.

Study: Possibly the most important item on the list, the best way to get A’s (with the other tips) is to study. It might not sound like the most fun task, but the longer you actually STUDY (and by study I DO NOT mean hanging out with friends with your history textbook, playing video games with math homework 5 feet from you, etc.), the more likely you will get A’s

Effort: ALWAYS put in your best effort. NEVER put in less than your best effort, and NEVER EVER put in less than 80% effort. Better effort might bring up grades.

Pay attention in class: Just as important as studying, this is the base for all other studying tips. Luck will not get you an A on that French Revolution Test, your notes and your studying time will.

Practice: Very similar to studying, you will never get good if you don’t practice. This is especially good tip for sports, band, dance, etc.

Get organized: Very important, being disorganized and having straight A’s is EXTREMELY rare, almost doesn’t occur. The more organized, the better off you’ll be.

The 3 G’s:
Never Give Up - Will lose all your progress
Guess - Will get you nowhere to an A or anywhere in life
Going Ahead and Cheating - If you get caught, you’ll be in big trouble, and NO guarantee for an A.

Hope this helped!

Everyone has emphasized studying or using those extra resources that the school and internet provides like online outlines or homework help.
Besides all that, you need to be able to not procrastinate. Most go through that phase of constant procrastination (and some are still stuck in that phase aka me). You need to develop that willpower to concentrate on your studies.
Work hard and play hard later!
