I feel like I am always asking transportation questions - but I always find the best answers here and hopefully someday I can pay it forward! :) What is the best way to get to Philadelphia or Baltimore airport? My daughter may be on an early morning flight - just not sure how she gets there - she has been asking around, but has not found a solid answer.

While my d has not done it yet, I have researched ways as she is coming home in November. You can take the septa train to Phil. and transfer to another train to the airport. You can also hire Delaware express shuttle. They offer a shared shuttle to Phil Airport for 45 each way. A friends duaghter used it, and were happy with the service.

Yes the service out of Newark is odd, not always convenient for what college students need. A kid traveling for the first time, I would opt for the Delaware shuttle. D was always able to pay a friend gas money to drive her to Philly for flights or train to NYC. But freshman may not have friends with cars at their disposal.

Just an aside, Delaware has zipcars, for those kids that may need a car for an hour or two without having the means to get rides. Its cheap $8 an hour, gas included. Can get one if your 18 and a student.

my kids use the Delaware Express shuttle and are real happy with the service. They’ll pick you up wherever you designate, just need to give 12 hrs notice.

There were times when she could get a ride from a friend but I found the peace of mind for the Delaware Express worth the $$ when the schedule was tight. They were always on time. They usually used a small shuttle van. A couple times she was by herself in a towncar when they had to pick up someone who ordered one when they dropped her off.
There is only one train a day that goes between Newark/BWI. There is more frequent service from Wilmington.
