Given that Bucknell is located several hours away from most major cities, is there a convenient way to travel to campus if you flew into Philly or Baltimore? My S is looking at colleges in the northeast, among other areas, but we’ve been concentrating on schools that are accessible by air.

Howdy Houston. I'm just two hours or so to your south. :)

Bucknell runs a shuttle to Harrisburg and Williamsport during major breaks, and for the long winter break they also run a shuttle up to JKF for international flights. We only use Philly if an adult (who can rent a car) is available. Philly worked for moving in, and visits. But for our son getting just himself back and forth, we use Harrisburg.

At least you are in Houston--because that's where we drive up to meet him.

how far is campus from philly? are there other ways to get back and forth between there?

Thanks for the reply, texastaximom! What airline carriers fly into Harrisburg?

I know that Delta and Southwest do, but you'd have to check the airport for a complete list. We usually do Southwest because you can get a one way cheap. Some airlines do not consider you "round trip" if there is too much time between leaving and coming home.

I double checked with my son, and to get to Philly you can go Greyhound--but we found the bus system to be very unreliable around holidays. Sometimes it just wouldn't come out to Lewisburg if it filled. (This is different from the campus shuttle to the airport, which is very reliable and cheap, too)There are students with cars (upperclassmen) that can offer rides, as long as your exam schedule is compatible. Also, roommates that travel home by car can also provide alternative airports. My son's roommmate lives near Islip for example.

There are only about eight Texans per class year at Bucknell, and they are so spread throughout the state that most just fly.
