And I don't mean "study study study". I mean literally get there. My son would like to visit a friend there this fall, and we're trying to gauge how difficult it'd be for an 18-year-old to get there on his own. Too far to drive. I assume fly into Providence? And I guess he can't rent a car, so somehow make his way to Newport? Are there any not-overly-expensive hotels close to NAPS? I've never in my life been to that part of the country.

Anybody out there who's been through NAPS or had a kid there? What are the students allowed to do on the weekends?

Well, does your son’s friend have a car or cold he borrow a car from someone else or have them go w/ your son’s friend to pick him up? Yes, flying into Providence is your closest option.

weekends are fairly free for the midshipmen candidates provided they aren’t on watch or mandatory study restrictions

Are the students at NAPS allowed cars? I’m quite sure his friend does not have one but maybe asking for help getting a ride in from the airport might work. Thanks for the suggestion.
