Hopefully chipset has registered on dyestat, where much more reliable information on the subject can be found.

LOLLLLL (10char)

im joining track wednesday. (kind of late, i know)
im a freshman and my best time is 6:20.
im overweight, eat unhealthy, and dont exercise.
hopefully if i turn things around i can break 6 minutes.

Because this thread is for track/ cross country people, silly. Of course the standards are gonna be super high.

Also I’m pretty sure most of the people posting are guys, because girls just don’t break 5 minutes… well I suppose we could… but that would be like a guy breaking 4. Or something.

My fastest was 5:35. This was in track.

running a fast mile is more complicated than just one or two things you can do to improve. i would say though, the most important are:

1) decent distance base in the off season, running at least 5 days a week
2) strength training
3) speed work specific to the mile.. your coaches should be guiding you here.
4) listening to your coaches

My one friend told me imagine their is a hot girl waiting for you at the finish line. That should get you to break the 4 minute mile.

i bet you have to have a good work ethic. :D

Whenever I would run, the guy that I liked would always be watching me (he runs, too) so I wouldn’t slow down because I wanted to impress him. Ha, ha.

I ran six quarters in 75-80 range yesterday with like three mins rest. I was recovering very quickly but couldn’t drop it under 75
I mean I could, but that would be an all out sprint. Hope to fix that by teh end of season.
Plus a 10 miler today :)

Heh, my fastest mile is somewhere around 6:10-6:20. I’ve never been in shape in my life though. And… I’m the type that can eat ice cream everyday for a week and not gain any weight. = )

I’m a pole-vaulter, but I joined distance this year. I’ll be doing half and half. I wonder how that’ll work out…

As a vaulter you should be doing a lot of sprinting drills and such.

Most good vaulters have a lot of speed.

I do my mile run in 17 minutes!

HA! I BEAT EVERYONE!!!

!!! As stated above, I could never, ever, run a mile in less than 17 minutes. lol

I also never learned how to ride a bike. (I’ll be turning 18 this August)

But hey, at least I have something in common with Bill Clinton. ;)

Yeah, but since this is my final year here, I figured that I should try doing something that I’d be able to continue my whole life. Distance I can do forever, at any age. In contrast, PV… lol.

But I know, PV + Distance is a weird combination. = )

lol a lot of xc people can run 3 miles in 17 minutes or less

haha, yeah, my mile time duing xc season was 6:15…i’m still in middle school and it was my first year, so i’m hoping to get faster :]

@blddrake: there’s a girl at my college that’s doing that, but IMO you’re just setting yourself to be mediocre at both. i think it’s better to really focus on one or the other

Haha, how is that even possible?
