Hi all! I logged on to URSA and found the textbooks I need, but the UCLA book store doesn't provide the ISBN# on the site. I'm just wondering how you guys buy textbooks without the ISBN. I mean, isn't it difficult to search for the books without the ISBN?

Hahaha thank you Emmeline for your thorough linking capabilities.

I was so about to type that out. Again.

By the way- they make it difficult for a reason.

Theyyyyy want your money.

Thanks for the replies!

if you have firefox it's a bit easier...do this:

1) Go to your book list page
2) Right Click and click on "View Page Info"
3) You should now see a bunch of tabs. Click on Forms.
4) Look in the bottom box, you should see four columns. Look under the column labeled "field name". Look for entries labeled "sku-new-1" or "sku-used-1"
5) Now look at the last column in the same row. You should see a number like: 0805385770U

Ignore the last letter and that's your ISBN number. For this case it would be 0805385770.

Now in the second column look for sku-new-2, that's your second book. the last number changes for the next book in the list...sku-new-3, sku-new-4 etc.

btw the "new" and "used" should be self-explanatory, they should have the same ISBN since they are the same book.

BUMP FOR THE NEW BRUINS!!! :)

lol ollllllllld.

but thanks jinobi. i thought about finding this but decided i was too lazy tonight to try.

and another gentle BUMP for good measure.

BUMP FOR NEW BRUINS!

I haven't been able to get this to work for my Chem 20A book. Looking at the source says "9780495481041" but I can't find anything.

Does it say "custom edition" on UCLAESTORE?

If so, you can buy it in person or find the original textbook and see if it's cheaper than what UCLA charges you.

What difference would a "custom-edition" have over the regular one? A CD and some extra notes?

It says "Oxtoby (New Low Price) / Princ Mod Chem (6th) (pkg W/custom Ssm & Oxford Cou". Is it worth buying it at full price for the extra thing or should I save $60 and buy just the book online?

pituoe: Its skinner. They use the relevant chapters. It might also come with a molecular model kit. You can get those anywhere though.

I'd ask the professor (http://www.directory.ucla.edu) in charge or the UCLA Store about the package's contents. As for buying it full price - ask the UCLA Store for the rates. See if you can find a better deal - eBay/Half.com/Amazon/Facebook Marketplace/South Campus Major/Campusi, etc. See if the investment makes sense.

And another bump just because it's that time of the year...

The Chemistry 20A textbook information is in the other thread.

Ok..so I followed all of the instructions and was able to see the ISBN#s except it seems that the used and new books have different numbers. Aren't they the exact same book? Help anyone?

^Most of the new ones, especially for lower div science classes, are a "special package" meaning the textbook is bundled with the solution's manual and/or cd-rom. So yeah, the "package" will have a different ISBN# than the textbook or sol manual alone.

The only feature that's special about the bundled package is the price.

Ok, I understand for the lower division "special package" books, but it seems even my books for english, which as far as I can tell, are just regular novels have the same new/used ISBN discrepacy. Am I looking in the wrong place or something?
